On Friday evening, Nick Perry was re-selected to represent the Castle Ward Liberal Democrats at the Borough Council election on 5 May.

With the party hoping to get a foothold back on the Council after a period without councillors, Mr Perry launched the Liberal Democrat 2016 campaign with a strong attack on the Labour Council for failing to tackle the Borough’s social housing problems.
Speaking after his selection, Nick said:
‘In my opinion the Labour Council has failed to deliver solutions to one of our town’s key problems: insufficient quantity, and poor quality social housing.
‘In Castle Ward we are seeing pockets of re-development for new houses, and it’s important to be open to that where it’s appropriate.  But take a broader view, and it’s all too clear that the Labour Council has failed to use the  Local Plan process to ensure that at least part of Hastings’ shortfall in social and other housing will be met in the new developments alongside the newly opened Link Road. When we realise this, we can see why folk on the housing list throw up their arms in despair‎.’
