Lib Dem tax cut for 35,700 Hastings residents

April 5, 2011

This month 35,700 Hastings residents will have an Income Tax cut thanks to the Liberal Democrats. And a further 1,280 will pay no tax at all.

Raising the Income Tax threshold to take those on the lowest incomes out of tax altogether was a central plank of the Lib Dem General Election manifesto and is being implemented in Government. By 2015 the first £10,000 that people earn will be tax free.

This month the personal tax allowance increases by £1,000, saving taxpayers in Hastings £200 per year. It means that by the end of the Parliament, Hastings residents will be able to earn £833 per month without paying tax.

Nick Perry, Lib Dem parliamentary spokesperson for Hastings & Rye said,

“Lib Dems are delivering fairer taxes in Government and making sure that work pays. By the end of this Parliament we will have a very different record than the previous Government, which was responsible for doubling the starting rate of Income Tax, making many families worse off.”
