Honk if you hate hospital parking charges

April 29, 2010

Nick Perry, who has spearheaded the campaign
against hospital parking charges locally said at the demo on Wednesday:

“We have wanted to show the Trust Board that this is still an issue that people care about, and that needs resolving to the satisfaction of the public.

“We have asked David Williams (Director Corporate Affairs) for some sort of public meeting, so that we can thrash out a process through which local people can have a say in the setting of acceptable parking charges at our hospital.

“Because of the kind of parking regime that is in place on the Conquest site, people have not necessarily wanted to join a collective grievance against any parking tickets issued today – they have been worried about the consequences of such action – but they have given generously to the collection for St Michael’s Hospice and the Friends of the Conquest.

“I was sad to see that the Trust has directed staff not to get involved in the protest. What has happened to our rights of freedom of expression and association, as community-spirited citizens?”
