Nick welcomes Employers’ return to negotiations

August 1, 2008

Following the recent industrial action by local government workers on 16 and 17 July, a joint statement issued on 24 July has revealed that local government employers are willing to return to the negotiating table.Nick Perry, Lib Dem parliamentary campaigner for Hastings & Rye (a mental health social worker) who joined UNISON colleagues in the industrial action has welcomed the move.

Nick says, “This is great news for local government workers – particularly our colleagues on the lower pay scales.

“In the economic climate foregoing two days’ pay is a big ask, and I am glad that the scale of the industrial action across the country has brought the employers back to the negotiating table.

“Local government workers are often caring for the most vulnerable members of our society. It is only right that they get a fair pay deal.”
