Lib Dem Transport spokesman Norman Baker MP visted Rye on Saturday as part of his ongoing commitment to improving rail services across the country.
Mr Baker said,
“We need a rail renaissance in this country. Our new and fully-costed transport policy is the greenest and most radical of any of the parties.
“We will roll back the Beeching cuts, and we will do the common sense things that are necessary to improve our rail network – like putting in place an electrified line between Hastings and Ashford. We must improve local access to this international railway station.”
Nick Perry, the Lib Dem parliamentary hopeful for Hastings & Rye said,
“Norman is right to prioritise our area in his transport plans. I also back his call for a freeze on rail fares, paid for out of the Government’s motorway-widening budget.
“If we are serious about protecting the environment, we need affordable public transport.
“I am proud that Lib Dem policies are greener and fairer than those of the other parties. We will continue to fight so that ordinary working people can afford to make greener choices in their everyday lives.”
We popped down to the Christmas Fair today on King’s Road.
